Objectives: To inform, engage and connect GeoConnections’ stakeholders in the use and further development of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure by:

Audience: technical implementers and program/project managers representing the geomatics community (federal, provincial, territorial, municipal, industry, not-for-profit organizations, geomatics associations), GeoConnections’ program representatives and GeoConnections’ partners.

Format: Presentations, facilitated discussions, networking.

9:00 – 9:15 am Welcome/Introduction - CGDI development Network

“The renewed GeoConnections program is being driven by users’ needs and requirements with an emphasis on four thematic areas i.e. Public health, Public safety, Aboriginal matters, and Environment and sustainable development. The presentation will highlight the scope and objectives of the four thematic areas and communicate progress to date and future opportunities”

10:15 – 10:45 am GeoConnections Users’ Capacity and Industry – Facilitated discussion

GeoConnections program is being driven by users’ needs and requirements, the workshop is providing opportunities to industry to meet and share information/solutions with GeoConnections’ thematic advisors and other stakeholders.”

10:45 – 12:00 pm CGDI Cores Services – Facilitated discussion

Facilitator: Adrian Camfield, GeoConnections/Natural Resources Canada
“The facilitated session will include discussions with respect to the definition and evolution of CGDI “core services” such as the GeoConnections Discovery Portal and related web services (Visualization with Web Mapping services, etc.) will be discussed.

12:00 pm to 1:15 pm --- Lunch ---
"A multi-media presentation describing the development and use of CGDI endorsed standards in real world situation, from the Open GIS Consortium, will be presented"

1:15 – 2:35 pm CGDI standards/architecture update and way forward

A series of presentations by contributors to the CGDI will talk about standards and architecture updates as well as explores the implementation of geospatial standards-based components and capabilities in portal technologies.

Google and Where 2.0 (15 minutes)
“This presentation will report on Web 2.0 development and Google geospatial aspects, progress to data and future work to align with standards and specifications such as OGC, etc.”

The round table discussion will provide an opportunity for participants to share their views on the influence of standards in creating interoperability, the benefits of the CGDI for their field of work, the technical challenges that still need to be overcome, and the opportunities to get involved.
