The Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure enables interoperable data access for Ontario farmers

The farmers of Oxford County, Ontario, will soon be able to access accurate, timely geospatial data online using the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). Farmers can use this data to manage nutrient programs and make other farm-related planning decisions.

In partnership with GeoConnections, the County of Oxford is re-engineering the existing "Map Your Farm" online application to enable the County, Land Information Ontario, the National Land and Water Information Service, and two local conservation authorities to exchange geospatial data over the web. Oxford County is one of the first municipalities to take part in a CGDI project, and its participation promises to increase exposure for the CGDI and pave the way for other municipalities to take advantage of this resource. In addition, the CGDI will be enriched by valuable municipal data from the County of Oxford and the conservation authorities.
