Conservation Areas Reporting and Tracking System (CARTS)

This project will establish and maintain an Internet application called the Conservation Areas Tracking and Reporting System (CARTS). This application will enable users to access and analyze public conservation-area information under Canadian provincial, territorial, and federal jurisdictions.

Conservation areas are owned and managed by a number of diverse agencies-agencies that work together through various legislative, policy, and technical committees and informal professional arrangements. CARTS will be a prime example of coordination and cooperation within the conservation areas community both inside and outside of Canada.

Using internationally recognized Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) compliant software and standards, the portal will allow the conservation and resource communities to visualise, analyse, and obtain geospatial conservation data for any part of Canada from a single interoperable system. National content standards in the portal will remove barriers between the resource and protected areas communities and strengthen ties within these communities as well.
