GeoConnections/Natural Resources Canada has just issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to procure geospatial technology and related software engineering integration services to advance core Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI).

The geospatial portal technology development and related integration services that GeoConnections (Natural Resources Canada) seeks to procure is to support core services that are detailed in the Geospatial Portal Reference Architecture and adhere to CGDI architecture principles. A “geospatial portal” provides one point of entry for users to search, view and obtain geospatial data and services without having to know where, how the data is stored and how services can be accessed. It is a web application which typically provides personalization, single sign-on, and content aggregation (spatial and non-spatial) from different distributed web resources. The geoportal technology development and related integration services will allow an enhanced discovery, access and download of geospatial information.

The proposed work would consist of three tracks:

Track 1: Development of a fully functional new GeoConnections Discovery Portal (GDP) that has the same functionality of the existing GDP and new functionality in the following areas:

  • Discovery of web map services and standardized access to these services and providing additional navigation and query tools for the user;
  • Monitoring and reporting of the quality of service within the Portal; and
  • Managing security, including user registration.

Track 2: Development of a fully functional new GeoGratis Portal that has the same functionality of the existing one and new functionality in the following areas:

  • Ordering system i.e. consistent order basket capabilities between static (static files ready for download) and dynamic (files that need further post-processing such as formats translation, etc.) products; and
  • Monitoring and reporting of the quality of service within the Portal.

The work for Track 2, GeoGratis Portal is optional to Canada.

Track 3: Software engineering integration services. These services would be on an as-and-when requested by Natural Resources Canada and would be called for via a task authorization process. Four specific tasks have been identified and already for part of the Statement of Work. The resulting contract will make provision for the task authorization portion of the work.
