Objectives: MapWraptor® WMS Authoring Toolkit
The
main project objective of the GeoInnovations project was the development
of a Web Map Service Authoring Toolkit. This objective was realized
and, with the release of MapWraptor v. 3.0 in October 2002, GeoArctic’s
spatial data cataloguing and metadata editing software now includes
a WMS Authoring Toolkit. The toolkit works with the Open Source
MapServer and Earth Resource Mapping’s Image Web Server. MapWraptor
provides an integrated suite of tools for spatial data management
and cataloguing (images and vectors); metadata creation, import,
editing, and search (FGDC and ISO); and automated authoring of OpenGIS
WMS. The WMS Authoring Toolkit requires no specialized programming
skills. The ease of use of the software means that offices with
little prior knowledge of OpenGIS or web mapping technologies can
author and host a WMS.
