Building a CGDI Cartographic Toolkit
Introduction
The CGDI has developed extensively in the short timeframe of GeoConnections, however it has evolved in stages with the most development involved in publishing data to the OGC Web Map Service Specification. DM Solutions Group was heavily involved in the past in developing technologies that supported the WMS standard.
In order to take further steps in seeing the CGDI become an interoperable infrastructure, DM Solutions recognized a critical need for support in technology of various supporting specifications including Styled Layer Descriptors (SLD) and Filter Encoding (FE). These are the specifications that enable cartographic control of data being published to the CGDI.
The audience that these tools would be targeted at is not necessarily expert in OGC specifications and would therefore be more comfortable in a user friendly GUI environment when leveraging these remote data sources.
Combined – these needs presented a business opportunity to DM Solutions Group that could be realized with the development of the proposed CGDI Cartographic Toolkit.
