Project Benefit

Benefit as Leader Company

GeoTango International Corp

The project “A Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI)-based 3D Tool for Interactive Visualization and Analysis” is in line with GeoTango’s business strategies. GeoServNet (GSN) is the first product to be released by GeoTango for 3D enabled web mapping, and therefore, this project was strategically critical to this new area of business. GeoTango was fully committed to developing and commercializing the project’s results. Resulted from this project, GeoTango will be releasing a series of 3D product lines including GSN Globe, GSN Analyst, GSN Builder, GSN Publisher etc. These 3D products are Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) complaint service components. They can be integrated to form a new line of product. With the advances of web services technology, these service components will be capable of chaining with third party components to provide integrated and enhanced services.

Benefit as Partner and Client

Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) Valcartier and the Department of National Defence (DND)

DND has a critical need for 3D geospatial data, both in open and urban terrain, as well as geospatial 3D analysis tools. DND is also strongly supportive to industry towards the use of standards and Web services and net centric enterprise services approaches. These tools are the keys to provide an improved situational awareness and to support on-demand decision-making. As such the development of a web-based 3D tool, GSN 3D Explorer, is of significant benefits to DRDC/DND partners.

Natural Resources Canada, Earth Science Sector, (NRCan, ESS)

The Earth Science Sector at Natural Resources Canada is very supportive of this project. GSN 3D Explorer offers a unique capability to support the Natural Hazards Emergency Response Program, which is one of the major NRCan programs. The true power of web-based 3D visualisation is its ability to communicate complex geographic phenomena using data from CGDI servers and to help users to understand multi-dimensional geospatial contexts such as situation simulations and risk assessment modeling on the Internet.
